It was an amazing night, brilliant live performance and a true honour to meet the man himself

British hip-hop icon and activist Lowkey plays an intimate show this December to celebrate 10 years of his classic sophomore album Soundtrack to the Struggle.

Upon it's release in 2011, the record shot to No1 in the I Tunes hip-hop charts with an emphasis on heavily political lyricism and heavyweight features from the likes of Klashnekoff and Immortal Technique.

Now a cult classic album, Lowkey will be performing the record in full for the first time in a decade at The Jazz Cafe

Artist Bio

Politically charged rapper Lowkey is ready to hit the stage and give another blast of his hard hitting grime tracks. His vital work in music works hand in hand with his activism including being a patron of the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign and a prominent member of the Stop The War campaign.

Kareem Dennis had already launched a number of amazing mixtapes even before he was 18 years old. From an early age he developed his talent rapping at the open mic sessions held at the Deal Real record shop located on Carnaby Street in London. There the young talent introduced himself with the stage name Lowkey only to be told the name was taken. A rap battle was arranged and won by Dennis who then earned the moniker.

Gaining wide acclaim throughout the hip hop circle, he began to release the now famous mixtapes series, known as Key To The Game, which he began releasing independently in 2003. His debut album Dear Listener was independently launched through the label Empire Recordings in 2008.

His second record followed in 2011 and was titled Soundtrack To The Struggle. Supported by the likes of ardent campaigner Tony Benn and outspoken poet Benjamin Zephiniah, the album peaked at #6 in the UK R&B Chart.

This latest release is built on some excellent collaborations, energetic flows and an unflinchingly honest historical account of current times. It clearly seeks to inspire critical thought and active resistance, and from the evidence on show, it probably will.” - Ceasefire Magazine

This year sees him hit the road for a Spring 2019 tour. Make sure you see him play Summerhall at Edinburgh, The Welly in mighty Hull, EastH - Hackney Arts Centre in London, Norwich Waterfront, Lemon Grove at Exeter, Bristol’s Fleece and The Haunt in Brighton during April. As Lowkey gig tickets are limited we really do urge you to book early to avoid disappointment.
