Loose Ends was a pioneering British R&B group that emerged in London in 1980. Comprising Carl McIntosh, Jane Eugene, and Steve Nichol, they became the first African-British band to top the US R&B charts with their hit “Hangin’ on a String (Contemplating)” in 1985 . Their second album, So Where Are You? (1985), reached No. 13 on the UK Albums Chart and featured the popular single “Magic Touch”.
Throughout the 1980s, Loose Ends released several albums, including A Little Spice (1984), Zagora (1986), and The Real Chuckeeboo (1988), each contributing to their legacy in the R&B genre . Their music blended elements of funk, soul, and jazz, influencing the development of the street soul and acid jazz movements . The group disbanded in 1990, but their impact on British R&B continues to be celebrated.
