Bristolian post-punk band KNIVES burst onto the scene with their debut EP, Newshounds and are known for their pop-infused sound and Idles-esque noise. The band is carving out a unique space in the punk and alternative world. Featuring dramatic breakdowns and aggressive lyrics, Newshounds is a product of meticulous collaboration with producer Bob Cooper (Jools, Citizen, Cassels) and mastering engineer Katie Tavini. Since releasing their fiery first single, KNIVES have built a reputation for chaos and creativity, selling out their headline show at Rough Trade Bristol and receiving widespread attention for their saxophone-driven twist on punk.
With saxophonist Maddy Hill adding an unconventional edge to Dan Farren and Josh Cook’s guitars, Ben Marshall’s basslines, Erin Cook’s thunderous drumming, and Jay Schottlander’s dynamic vocals (and irreverent stage chatter), KNIVES bring a fresh take on the genre. Their live performances, alongside acts like Life, Soul Glo, and James and the Cold Gun, are high-energy spectacles that have cemented their status as rising stars in the post-punk scene. Newshounds is not just an EP; it’s a bold statement of intent from a band ready to reshape the soundscape of modern punk.
