Joe Bonamassa, Blackpool Opera House, Blackpool - 22nd April 2017

Two and a quarter hours of Blues, Rock and Jazz at the Blackpool Opera House delivered by Joe and his band, backed up by two lovely, gifted lady backing singers made this punter one very happy and contented dude. A full house immediately warmed to Joe and responded so enthusiastically to him. His guitar work is simply phenominal. Big thumbs up to Anton Fig on the drums, Reece Wynans on keyboards, Michael Rhodes on Bass, Lee Thornberg and Pauli Cerra (Trumpet and Sax) and to Mahalia and Jade for the sexy backing vocals. This was a special occasion to treasure. It must have been at least an hour before Joe drew breath and took time out to introduce his band but by then, we were all hooked to his rhythm and Joe had the audience wrapped around his little finger. So lucky to have witnessed it all.

Joe Bonamassa, Usher Hall, Edinburgh - 18th April 2017

I have seen Joe Bonamassa, in various guises, over the last 10 years or so. If there is a more accomplished guitarist who can combine blistering technique with musicality and showmanship then I'm a monkey's uncle. Staggering player, top rated band, beautiful arrangements and incredibly entertaining. If you music, full stop, catch this man and his band live. It's what life is all about, amazing memories and sheer pleasure....

Joe Bonamassa, Sheffield Arena, Sheffield - 24th April 2017

First time seen Joey B and not disappointed. Played own stuff and some covers which went down well. I thought he could have done a bit more in explaining the titles of the songs of both his own and his covers of BB King and Freddie King. The brass section were obviously talented but barely audible unless they did a solo. Sometimes the guitar solos meandered a bit but otherwise a crisp performance. Shame only one encore and only one song at that. Also, ticket prices quite expensive although probably the going rate.
Good venue but could do with a decent pub nearby.

"Don't buy a front row seat!"

Joe Bonamassa, Sheffield Arena, Sheffield - 24th April 2017

I was in the first row of Block B. The speakers at the front of the stage (not the bands monitors) meant a lot was obstructed (the drummer was half covered and I didn't see the bass player until the third song!). I won't buy that seat again! That aside it was, as usual, a show to watch from Joe and the band. I don't mind the "breaks" where the individual band members get their chance to show their talents, but the fairly lengthy drum solo took me a bit by surprise. (its not as if he's a Mike Portnoy!). The arena was largely closed off and I don't know why, but when Joe plays Sheffield, why doesn't he just play City Hall?

Joe Bonamassa is perhaps the best kept secret in blues having opened for the legendary B.B. King whilst still a twelve-year-old child and formed musical partnerships with the likes of Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood, yet still has yet to become a household name. But for those in the know he becomes somewhat of a passion.

Having been born in New York during 1977, his prolific efforts have culminated in to a rich back catalogue which includes the Grammy Award nomination for his collaborative album with Beth Hart; SeeSaw. Recent years have seen an exceptionally high amount of output with the release of two albums; Live In Amsterdam and Different Shades Of Blue, in a single year during 2014. The following year saw the release of Muddy Wolf at Red Rocks and in March of 2016 he released his twelve studio album; Blues Of Desperation.

Joe certainly believes in giving something back, and as well as a punishing touring and recording schedule he also finds time to be actively involved in a not-for-profit organisation called the "Keeping The Blues Alive Foundation". Their aim is to help fund scholarships and educational musical resources for underprivileged youngsters and their schools.

Funnily enough, Joe cites British and Irish blues performers as his major influences, rather than his fellow Americans, in particular John Mayall, Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan. However, he does acknowledge that the legends of the genre in America, including B.B. King, are also a huge inspiration to his style and sound.

Fans can experience that sound on a clutch of albums, but without doubt the best way to hear Joe is live. Joe Bonamassa concert tickets sell out quickly, especially when there are only a limited number of UK gigs this year featuring the guitarist, so if you’re a fan of hard-core blues then grab a ticket from Gigantic and see the man in action this year.

Joe Bonamassa tickets can be yours through Gigantic.

See him perform in Spring of next year at Usher Hall in Edinburgh, Blackpool Opera House and Sheffield Arena plus two nights at Royal Albert Hall in London during April of 2017.

Concert tickets are always limited and these two nights are truly special and expected to sell quickly so book early to avoid disappointment. Always stick with Gigantic for the best experience for gig tickets.
