Jesse Malin, 100 Club, London - 17th September 2019

Right up at the front of the 100 Club is the place to take in all the energy that Jesse's putting out. Great band and an excellent set - a mixture of old classics and lots from the great new album Sunset Kids. Room 13 was a big highlight. Also the usual Jesse rap with the crowd and total disregard for health and safety. The lead for Jesse's mic got caught in the stand and stage fan several times as he leapt on and off stage. All part of the fun!

Interested in music from a very young age, Jesse Malin started his first band when only 12 Years old. Named Heart Attack, the hardcore group released a single and two EPs between the years of 1981 and 1984. The band did attempt to play a gig at the legendary New York bar CBGBs but were turned down as they would not be able to attract an audience that was of drinking age.

In 1991 Malin formed his second band D Generation with former Heart Attack band member Danny Sage. Heavily influenced by New York Dolls the music was predominantly Glam rock and punk. The band released three albums, including No Lunch produced by The Cars front Ric Ocasek, before splitting in 1999.

Malin developed his own sound for a number of years before his friend, fellow musician, Ryan Adams elected to produce his new solo work. The result was an album titled The Fine Art Of Self Destruction which took only six days to record in the Loho Studios and was released in 2002 through Artemis Records.

His first album was followed in succession by the records The Heat (2004), Glitter In The Gutter (2007) and On Your Sleeve (2008).

In 2010 Malin gathered a band and called it Jesse Malin and the St. Mark's Social with which he recorded the album Love It To Life.

2015 saw a spurt of creativity and the release of two albums New York Before The War and Outsiders.
