J.I.D (real name Destin Choice Route) is an Atlanta-born rapper and singer whose dexterous wordplay, fluid flow and emotional range have earned him a reputation as one of hip hop’s most compelling voices. He cofounded the collective Spillage Village in 2010 and became a signee of J. Cole’s Dreamville imprint in 2017, giving him a platform to expand his reach while staying deeply rooted in his craft.
His debut album The Never Story (2017) drew critical praise for its narrative clarity and technical skill. DiCaprio 2 (2018) elevated him further, pairing rapid-fire bars with introspective storytelling and collaborations with J. Cole. His 2022 release The Forever Story charted new territory, blending vulnerability and cinematic scope and spawning singles like “Surround Sound.” Most recently, he’s teased God Does Like Ugly, an ambitious project rooted in personal history and artistic evolution.
