Intervals is a Canadian progressive metal band known for their intricate, instrumental compositions and technical musicianship. Founded in 2011 by guitarist Aaron Marshall, the project has evolved from a full band to a primarily solo endeavour, with Marshall collaborating with various musicians to bring his vision to life.
Blending elements of progressive metal, jazz fusion, and ambient soundscapes, Intervals has gained a strong following within the instrumental rock and djent communities. Albums such as A Voice Within (2014) – the band's only release with vocals – and the instrumental The Shape of Colour (2015) helped establish their reputation for melodic complexity and technical precision. Subsequent releases like The Way Forward (2017) and Circadian (2020) have continued to push the boundaries of modern progressive metal.
Renowned for his fluid guitar playing and emotive compositions, Aaron Marshall has taken Intervals around the world, performing alongside some of the biggest names in progressive and instrumental music.
