Grade 2 formed in Ryde in 2013 and quickly honed their craft covering classic punk and Oi! bands before forging their own identity as a three-piece featuring Sid Ryan (bass/vocals), Jack Chatfield (guitar/vocals) and Jacob Hull (drums). Drawing on the likes of The Jam and The Stranglers, they built a sound that’s urgent, honest and unfiltered — one that reflects growing up in a seaside town and the frustrations that come with it.
They made waves with multiple albums including Mainstream View (2016), Break the Routine (2017), Graveyard Island (2019) and a self-titled record in 2023 released via Hellcat Records. Recorded with punk legend Tim Armstrong and mixed by Kevin Bivona of The Interrupters, their work is as much about songwriting and social commentary as blistering riffs and pogo-friendly beats. With countless tours worldwide, a commitment to the DIY ethos and live shows that deliver, Grade 2 have earned their place as one of modern punk’s most authentic and vital voices.
