Gaelynn Lea is an American folk musician, violinist, and disability rights advocate known for her hauntingly beautiful compositions and innovative approach to the violin. Hailing from Duluth, Minnesota, she gained national recognition after winning NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest in 2016 with her song "Someday We’ll Linger in the Sun," which showcased her unique looping technique and deeply emotive sound.
Born with osteogenesis imperfecta, a genetic condition that affects bone growth, Gaelynn developed a distinctive style of violin playing, holding the instrument upright like a cello. Her music blends elements of traditional folk, Celtic, and classical influences, creating ethereal, layered soundscapes. She has released several albums, including Deepest Darkness, Brightest Dawn and Learning How to Stay, and has toured internationally, captivating audiences with her raw storytelling and evocative melodies.
Beyond her music, Gaelynn is a passionate advocate for accessibility and inclusion in the arts, frequently speaking on the intersection of disability and creativity. Through her performances and activism, she continues to inspire and challenge the music industry to become more inclusive.
