Fat White Family
10 Years Of Songs For Our Mothers
Concorde 2, Brighton
Doors at 19:30 | Ends: 11:00
Formed in a squat in Peckham in 2011, Fat White Family quickly carved out a reputation as one of British music's most confrontational and unpredictable bands. Fronted by Lias Saoudi, their scuzzy, lo-fi sound and lyrics that deliberately needle conventional standards of taste and decency made debut album Champagne Holocaust (2013) and its darker, more vitriolic follow-up, Songs for Our Mothers (2016), cult favourites in the UK and beyond.
The band softened their edges, if only slightly, for Serfs Up! (2019), their first release for Domino Records, which became their most commercially successful album to date, reaching number 17 in the UK charts. Forgiveness Is Yours (2024) saw them lean further into electronics and pop songcraft while delving into some of Saoudi's most personal and uncomfortable songwriting yet. Saoudi has also documented the band's chaotic history in the memoir Ten Thousand Apologies: Fat White Family and the Miracle of Failure, co-written with Adelle Stripe and shortlisted for the Penderyn Music Book Prize. Loved and loathed in equal measure, Fat White Family remain unmissable, unpredictable and unlike anything else in British music.
