About Ezra Collective

Ezra Collective are a jazz quintet from London, blending jazz with Afrobeats, funk and soul for effortlessly danceable grooves. 

Born in the youth clubs of London, the members grew deeply connected to the Afrobeat movement and the legacy of Nigerian musician and activist Fela Kuti, the principal innovator of Afrobeat. The band also started drawing heavily on the sound of church choirs and and London's underground dancefloors. 

Chapter 7 (2016) arrived as Ezra Collective's debut EP, and is a profound exploration of identity and cultural connection, acting as a spiritual and rhythmic blueprint for the group. The group's second album, Where I'm Meant To Be (2022) propelled them to international prominence and led them to their historic Mercury Prize win, making history as the first first jazz group to win in 2023. 

Ezra Collective have earned a reputation for their electrifying live shows, fostering a sense of community and joy. With their music drawing on the sounds of the African diaspora while embracing London's rich musical landscape, the result is an energetic, uplifting sound that continues to push the boundaries of modern jazz.
