The stellar career of Elton John spans longer than fifty years and has seen the pop icon play over 4000 live performances and sell more than 250 million records worldwide.
His music has seen him highly decorated and he was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and awarded the Society Of Singers Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. Elton has won six of his ten Grammy Award Nominations most importantly being bestowed the Grammy Legend Award in 1999.
The titles of the 100 million singles he has sold include Pinball Wizard, I’m Still Standing, Nikita, Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, Sacrifice, Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me, Something About The Way You Look Tonight, Are You Ready For Love?
Further to his work in popular music Elton has written music for film. Most notably, his work on the motion picture Lion King produced the songs Hakuna Matata, Circle Of Life and Can You Feel The Love Tonight? The award winning songs saw the singer develop the film into a massively popular stage production.
A keen campaigner, Elton has fought for LGBT rights and championed the right to same-sex marriage. In 1992 he also established the non-profit organisation The Elton John AIDS Foundation to prevent the spread of the disease through care and education.
Having built such an impressive and exhaustive career so far Elton has expressed a desire to play fewer live performances in the future.
“The simple truth is I want to spend more time with my family, and I am only too aware of just how precious the time ahead is. My sons are growing up so quickly; their early years are just flying by and I want to be there with them. So these concerts will give me the chance to thank the British audiences who have been so faithful to me over these many decades. We cannot get to everyone but I am going to try to get back to people who love music but get so few concerts
