Earl Sweatshirt is an influential American rapper and producer.
A former member of the hip-hop collective Odd Future, he gained acclaim with his debut mixtape Earl in 2010 when he was just 16, and this debut is known for its raw, dark lyricism and vivid imagery. Sweatshirt is also championed for his unique flow style, which is often sparse, hesitant, or off-beat.
His work is celebrated for dense, cryptic lyricism; often introspective, dealing with personal struggle, grief, mental health, identity, isolation, and family dynamics. His sound has evolved from shock lyricism and horrorcore elements in early work toward more experimental, abstract, and mood-driven production.
