Dry Cleaning are a South London-based quartet whose blend of spoken word and post-punk has made them one of the most distinctive bands of the past decade. Fronted by Florence Shaw, with Lewis Maynard on bass, Tom Dowse on guitar, and Nick Buxton on drums, their sound fuses deadpan lyricism with angular riffs and hypnotic rhythms. Florence’s understated, conversational vocal delivery - often drawn from notes, observations, and overheard fragments - has become a defining feature of their work, setting them apart as sharp chroniclers of modern life.
Their debut album New Long Leg (2021) was widely acclaimed for its originality and wit, earning critical praise and a devoted following. The follow-up, Stumpwork (2022), expanded their sonic palette with warmer textures and deeper introspection, cementing Dry Cleaning’s reputation as innovators within the post-punk revival. The band have performed at major festivals including Glastonbury, Green Man, and Primavera Sound, captivating audiences with their precise musicianship and effortless cool. Dry Cleaning’s music thrives on contrast - mundane yet poetic, detached yet deeply human.
