New York indie rock band Codeine were pioneers of slowcore, developing their own unique blend of brooding guitars and pained vocals. Formed in 1989 by Stephen Immerwahr (vocals, bass), Chris Brokaw (drums), and John Engle (guitar); the band released two albums Frigid Stars LP (1990) and The White Birch (1994) before splitting.
Having previously played a handful of shows in 2012, the band fully reformed in 2012 for the release of the Dessay record, and now continue to play around the world.
