Chalk are a Belfast-based trio whose potent blend of post-punk, techno and industrial textures has carved out a singular place in the UK’s underground music scene. Founded by Ross Cullen (vocals), Benedict Goddard (guitar/synth) and Luke Niblock (drums) during the pandemic, the band emerged with a sound rooted in their city’s history of club-culture and raw sonic experimentation.
Their music fuses driving rhythms, jagged guitars and haunting vocals to explore themes of isolation, anxiety and urban dislocation — giving them a reputation for atmosphere-thick intensity and cathartic live shows. With EPs like Conditions and the forthcoming Conditions III, they’re rapidly gaining attention beyond Belfast as one of post-punk’s most thrilling modern voices.
