Additional information
Join Olivia Dieterich for a workshop where she will share her personal story including her struggles with mental health, and how crocheting became an unexpected lifeline during some of her hardest moments.
We'll explore the genuine wellbeing benefits of crochet: how the repetitive mindful rhythm can ease anxiety, quiet racing thoughts, and offer a sense of calm and control. You'll get hands on with patterns from Olivia's book, working through them together, with tips and support along the way. Olivia will also share the story behind Random Acts of Crochet Kindness, and how small, thoughtful gestures can ripple outward to make the world a little brighter. Because sometimes the best way to help yourself, is to start by helping someone else.
You'll leave with new skills, a finished (or well-started) project, and maybe a fresh perspective on your own wellbeing journey.
This workshop is for people who have experience of crocheting - please bring your own crochet hook and wool.
About Olivia
Hi, I'm Liv. I grew up around crafts thanks to my Nan, but found a true passion for crocheting while at school and struggling with my mental health. After losing a friend to suicide in 2018, I began pairing crocheted flowers with encouraging messages and leaving them in public for people to find, a practice that gave me a sense of purpose and made me happy knowing I might be making someone else's day a little better.
That small act of kindness grew into something much bigger: a Facebook group called Random Acts of Crochet Kindness, which now has over 370,000 members, with affiliated groups created all over the world. I wrote Random Acts of Crochet Kindness, which is a heartfelt collection of 25 small, beginner-friendly crochet projects - hearts, flowers, rainbows, and more, designed to be made and then left for strangers to find, gifted to friends, or shared with the community. It's a joyful, heartwarming celebration of the power of yarn to connect people, lift spirits, and spread happiness one stitch at a time.
