Bonnie Trash are the Guelph, Ontario-based post-punk duo of twins Emmalia and Sarafina Bortolon-Vettor, who fuse steely-eyed post-punk with the brooding grandeur of goth rock. Since launching the project in 2017 with their debut EP Ezzelini's Dead, the pair have drawn on their Italian heritage, including the Trevisan dialect and folklore, to craft music steeped in atmosphere and narrative. Their first full-length album, Malocchio (2022), wrapped nightmarish visions in dusky, dreamlike reverb, establishing Bonnie Trash as purveyors of intense, emotionally charged soundscapes.
Their most recent album, Mourning You, delves into the intimate realities of grief and loss, inspired largely by the passing of their Nonna Maria. Tracks like “Your Love Is My Revenge” pair Sarafina’s impassioned, howling vocals with dense, chugging guitars, creating songs that explore love, sorrow, and the lingering impact of absence with a raw, unflinching honesty. The addition of Emma Howarth-Withers on bass and Dana Bellamy on drums has expanded their sonic palette, while the band’s unrelenting blend of gothic intensity and post-punk energy continues to captivate listeners worldwide.
