Billy Nomates is the stage name of Bristol-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tor Maries, whose raw, fiercely independent sound blends post-punk, synth-pop and spoken word. With sharp lyrics and a no-frills attitude, she first turned heads with her self-titled debut album Billy Nomates (2020), earning praise from critics and peers alike—including Sleaford Mods, who invited her to collaborate on their track “Mork n Mindy.”
Her second album CACTI (2023), released via Invada Records, expanded her sonic palette with bold electronics and emotional depth, tackling themes of isolation, identity and resilience. Tracks like “balance is gone” and “blue bones (deathwish)” showcase her knack for combining vulnerability with biting social commentary.
Billy Nomates has performed at major UK festivals including Glastonbury, Green Man and End of the Road, and her powerful live shows—often performed solo with loop pedals and synths—have cemented her reputation as a fearless and uncompromising voice in modern music.
