Bass Drum of Death are a garage-punk rock band hailing from Oxford, Mississippi, formed in (and active since) (2007). Frontman and primary songwriter John Barrett originally created the project solo—playing guitar and bass drum simultaneously—before it evolved into a more conventional band setup.
Their debut album GB City (2011) made a splash in the indie rock scene with its raw, fuzz-laden energy, quick riffs and youthful urgency. Subsequent records such as Bass Drum of Death (2013) and Rip This (2014) reinforced their reputation for loud, guitar-driven songs that channel garage rock’s rebellious spirit. Known for their high-octane live performances and gritty aesthetic, Bass Drum of Death have toured the US and Europe extensively. In more recent years they sharpened their sound with Just Business (2018) and Say I Won’t (2023), the latter being the first album they wrote and recorded with the full touring band rather than Barrett solo.
