Andrew Wasylyk is the stage name of Andrew Mitchell, frontman of indie-pop outfit The Hazey Janes and bassist for alternative rockers Idlewild. Since launching his solo project in 2015, Wasylyk has crafted a distinct voice rooted in atmosphere, reflection and a deep connection to place. His solo work, including Soroky (2015), Themes for Buildings and Spaces (2017) and The Paralian (2019), explores the relationship between architecture, memory and sound, weaving together textured arrangements with delicate melodies. Each release reveals his gift for storytelling without words, a composer’s sensibility meeting a songwriter’s soul.
His later albums — Fugitive Light and Themes of Consolation (2020), Balgay Hill: Morning in Magnolia (2021), Hearing the Water Before Seeing the Falls (2022) and Parallel Light (2023) — expand this vision further, blending ambient tones with chamber pop, jazz and classical influences. Wasylyk’s music is both introspective and cinematic, inviting listeners into immersive worlds built on emotion, landscape and light. With every record, he continues to redefine the boundaries of contemporary instrumental music, confirming his place as one of Scotland’s most quietly visionary artists.
