ALVIN YOUNGBLOOD HART & MUSCLE THEORYThe Old Brewery Store, Faversham | Saturday 27 March 2027
"The boy got thunder in his hands!" — Taj Mahal
Grammy Award-winning guitarist and blues legend Alvin Youngblood Hart brings his electric trio Muscle Theory to Faversham for a night of raw, revelatory blues, roots and rock.
Born in Oakland and steeped in the Mississippi Delta tradition from childhood, Hart is one of the most celebrated and versatile musicians of his generation — a man who doesn't just play the blues, he lives it. Mojo magazine called him "dizzyingly versatile", while Guitar Player noted he "transcends labels and genres"; The Independent simply declared his "eclecticism puts him in a class of his own."
His credentials speak for themselves: Grammy Award winner, WC Handy Award winner, Downbeat Magazine Award winner — and a film career that reads like a roll-call of the greatest blues documentaries ever made. Alvin has appeared in Martin Scorsese's The Blues: A Musical Journey, Wim Wenders' The Soul of a Man, Robert Mugge's Last of the Mississippi Jukes, and performed solo acoustic on Later with Jools Holland.
Most recently, Alvin contributed to the acclaimed Ryan Coogler film Sinners (2025) — the Oscar-nominated blues drama starring Michael B. Jordan, set in 1932 Clarksdale, Mississippi. Alvin wrote and contributed "Travelin'" to the soundtrack and performed Charley Patton's "Pony Blues" in the film, recording alongside Buddy Guy, Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, Bobby Rush and Brittany Howard at the legendary Royal Studios in Memphis. The soundtrack was released via Sony Masterworks and earned Oscar nominations for Best Original Score and Best Sound.
This is a rare chance to see a true giant of American roots music in an intimate setting.
Expect blues that makes your bones shake.
