This Is The Kit - the musical project which holds exceptional Paris-via-Bristol songwriter Kate Stables close to its heart - have earned the adoration of peers including Guy Garvey, The National and Sharon van Etten. Their new album and Rough Trade debut, 'Moonshine Freeze', is undoubtedly their most compelling and accomplished to date. Produced by John Parish (PJ Harvey, M Ward, Perfume Genius), it began in the immediate wake of its predecessor, 'Bashed Out', when days after coming off tour last November, Stables and her band (Rozi Plain, Jamie Whitby-Coles, Neil Smith and Jesse D Vernon) headed into Geoff Barrow’s Invada studios in Bristol. Aaron Dessner of The National also features on six of the album tracks.

Though the album’s songs were already written before heading into the studio, Stables says she had no fierce vision for how they should sound, preferring to let them take shape with the input of her band and Parish. “I’m not yet someone who says ‘I want this album to sound like an 80’s French nightclub’,” she says. “All I can do is write the songs and then step back from them and see what themes or patterns there are, then bring those patterns out so it’s a coherent piece of work, sonically and in terms of feeling.” Sonically, Moonshine Freeze is a beguiling mixture of great musical sophistication and something more guileless — children’s games, incantations and snatches of nursery rhymes. Stables’ voice too is a remarkable thing: in its angles there lies an exquisite strangeness reminiscent of Will Oldham, Magnolia Electric Co, Robert Wyatt, Karen Dalton

Rachael Dadd-

“Late contender for the best of the year lists... brilliantly unusual, unexpected tracks, you neverknow what she’s going to do next.” Lauren Laverne

With a string of releases on Talitres (EU/UK), Broken Sound (UK), Sweetdreams Press andAngel’s Egg (Japan) and much support from DJs on Radio 1, Radio 2, Xfm, 6 Music, FranceMusique among many other stations worldwide, experimental folk multi-instrumentalist RachaelDadd has just released her strongest and most impacting body of work into the public sphere. Two years in the making ‘We Resonate’ out on Talitres (UK/EU) and Sweetdreams Press(Japan), is an uplifting celebration of life and by far her most collaborative. It sees Rachaeljoined by Laura Marling’s sideman Marcus Hamblett, experimental Japanese multi-instrumentalist ICHI, Alessi Laurent-Marke of Alessi’s Ark, Rozi Plain, Emma Gatrill of Sons ofNoel and Adrian, and Thomas Heather of Woodpecker Wooliams.

Born from the richness of Rachael Dadd’s semi-nomadic lifestyle, partly recorded live in astudio followed by playful overdubbing in Rachael’s front room, ‘We Resonate’ carves out aniche of its own, crossing genres from folk, through pop and experimental. Pulsing with poly-rhythms on prepared-piano, homemade xylophone, voice, clarinets, typewriter, boxes ofmatches, steel drum, tap-dancing, clapping, and even the heartbeat of Rachael’s baby in thewomb, it reveals that her love of African field-recordings and the spirit embodied within themhas seeped into the diverse mix of influences, along with Steve Reich, Tune Yards, and theJapanese underground/ improv scene.

Rachael has performed to audiences of up to 3000 and in recent times has taken to the stage atcountless festivals including Glastonbury, End of The Road, Green Man, Wilderness, NoDirection Home, Truck, Boomtown, Ouvre La Voix (France), Mandstock (Italy), and Woodford(Australia).

Having graduated from art school with first class honors, Rachael is also a practicing andexhibiting artist, always putting emphasis on the record sleeve and often making handmadelimited editions, thinking conceptually and regularly collaborating with RCA graduate animatorand sister Betsy Dadd with whom she is the recipient of an Emerging Excellence Award for anew collaborative show they are working on together.

“Bold art folk... accomplished fusion of words, acoustic strumming and wild percussive textures.”
