Soapgirls and support triumph in Nottingham
I have seen the Soapgirls 3 times in the past year. The first time I was pursuaded by a female friend, also a musician to go to see them and they were stunning. A lot of people concentrate on the fact they play mostly topless, but once they start playing you forget that, not because they aren't stunning, but because the songs are good and they have the attitude and the inclusiveness to capture the audience. They sing to and about the people who feel ignored by society and promote the right of the individual and both male and female fans love them for that. They absolutely smashed it at this gig - best out of the 3 times I've seen them. With favourites like Jonny Rotten and Society's Rejects plus songs from their soon to be released new album they prove that they are here to stay and still accept no compromise to their overall message against hate and bullying and erosion of individual rights. It was a highspot at the end when they sang Bad Bitch and invited the ladies in the venue to join them on stage and sing along. I felt it was an empowering moment for all of them and so Typical of a Soapgirls show. And lets not forget the support from excellent new female band Marty, Nottingham's finest Desensitised and the token mostly male band the Dandylions all of who showed what live music is all about. All bands highly recommended.
