Performing Artists

Throughout the years, Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudło have been blending local, traditional jazz inspirations with means of new electronica. This original approach sparked interest of Ninja Tune, for whom Skalpel recorded two enthusiastically received albums: “Skalpel” and “Konfusion”. These paved the way to the Gilles Peterson Worldwide Award nomination, excellent reviews in magazines such as NME, The Wire or DJ Mag and a worldwide tour. “Transit”, Skalpel’s third album, marked a significant shift in their creative technique, a shift from samples to virtual instruments.
On the new album “Highlight”, Skalpel takes another turn and delivers their most comprehensive album to date. The main reference points are Miles Davis’ fusion, minimal music but also Warp and Ninja Tune’s legacy. As always Skalpel alludes to Polish jazz as well as trip-hop however in creative process they maintain a fresh, contemporary sound known from current and trendy productions, yet remaining autonomous and original.
Their live show evolved over the years as well. From a DJ set to live musicians: they share the stage with a drummer, vibraphonist and double bass player to deliver an immersing live show.
