About Sara Curruchich

Sara Curruchich is a Guatemalan singer-songwriter and activist, celebrated for her powerful fusion of folk, rock, and traditional Maya Kaqchikel music. As the first indigenous Guatemalan artist to gain international recognition, she uses her music to advocate for human rights, indigenous identity, and gender equality, singing in both Spanish and Kaqchikel. Her music is deeply rooted in the struggles and resilience of her people, making her a vital voice in contemporary Latin American folk music.

Her debut album, Somos (2019), featured tracks like "Ralk’wal Ulew" and "Resistir", which highlight her commitment to social justice and cultural preservation. In 2021, she released Mujer Indígena, further establishing her as a force in Latin American music. Curruchich has performed at international festivals and collaborated with artists such as Lila Downs and Rozalén, bringing indigenous and feminist issues to a global stage. Through her music and activism, she continues to inspire and uplift marginalised communities while preserving the rich musical traditions of her ancestors.
