Richard Herring is known for his fantastic stand up comedy that has been a big draw at the Edinburgh Fringe and for his long term partnership with sardonic comic Stuart Lee with whom he became a well-known face on television.
Richard Keith Herring was first born in Pocklington, Yorkshire, before moving to Cheddar in Somerset and studying at St Catherine’s College, Oxford, where he began to write comedy and performed with a troupe called the Seven Raymonds.
He began his partnership with Stuart Lee at the beginning of the Nineties with the pair working on material for satirical humourists Chris Morris and Armando Iannucci’s parody of current affairs broadcasting; On The Hour transmitted on BBC Radio 4. The pair became immersed in the alternative comedy scene prevalent during the decade and wrote the sketch show Fist Of Fun which was originally conceived for radio but became a BBC2 television programme. They also presented the day time television parody show This Morning With Richard Not Judy which also ran on BBC2.
Since 2000 Herring has largely worked independently performing in many major stand up sketches in quick succession. His fantastic comedy pieces in front of a live studio audience include Christ On A Bike, Someone Likes Yogurt, Oh Fuck, I’m 40, Hitler Moustache and his male answer to the Vagina Monologues; Talking Cock.
