About Pop Up Screens
All through the summer and into the early autumn, Pop Up Screens will be touring the capital, bringing the best of cinema to outdoor locations around London. The idea of Pop Up Screens is to give the public an alternative cinematic experience to the usual, over-priced indoor versions that an evening out at the movies usually entails. This year they’re busier than ever. At Gigantic we don’t just love music, we love our movies too. So we have Pop Up Screens tickets available for a wide selection of venues throughout July, August and September.
The season starts with three nights at Greenwich Peninsula Central Park in London on July 28th, 29th and 30th with screenings of the avant garde fantasy film ‘Labyrinth’, romcom ’10 things I hate about you’, and the family-friendly ‘Big’. Then from the 31st to the 2nd August the screen moves for three nights to Bishop’s Park in London for ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’, ‘Pretty Woman’ and the classic ‘Footloose’. The entertainment carries on throughout August and September with each screening showing something different from comedy to thrillers. The season wraps up (before the bad weather kicks in!) with a two-day stint at East Green Pleasaunce in Greenwich on September 25th and 26th with showings of Ghostbusters and E.T. This is family entertainment at its very best, and a great opportunity to spend an evening watching a great film in the great outdoors �" bring a picnic!
Pop Up Screens aims to bring cinema to the masses, but at the same time making the most of London’s open and green spaces. It’s an immersive experience that allows people to enjoy a film in a unique way, rather than sitting on uncomfortable (and suspiciously sticky) chairs for a couple of dark, dingy hours. London’s parks are a wonderful setting for an evening out with the family, and Pop Up Screens tour dates are always popular. Of course, there’s always the unknown factor �" the weather �" but that’s a chance you take with any outdoor venue. But there’s nothing better than sitting out in one of London’s pretty parks on a balmy summer’s evening with a glass of wine, watching a great film.
