About Jens Lekman

Swedish songwriter Jens Lekman is known for his witty romantic songs. His pop songs usually feature him playing guitar or the ukulele accompanied with the use of samples and strings.

Lekman discovered music as a teenager after being recruited to play bass in a friend’s cover band. Joining the group awoke a deep interest and he soon began writing his own material which he would record and burn on to CD-R, the first of which he released in 2001 titled The Budgie. He succeeded in getting a collection of his demos to indie label Secret Canadian who signed him.

His first full length album was entitled When I Said I Wanted To Be Your Dog and released in 2004. The record attracted alternative press interest and the track You Are The Light became somewhat of a radio hit. When I Said I Wanted To Be Your Dog reached #6 in the Swedish Album Chart and same him nominated for three Swedish Grammies and was declared Album Of The Year by Nöjesguiden magazine.

His follow up came in 2007 with the album Night Falls Over Kortedala. The album enjoyed even greater commercial success, smashing the Swedish Charts at #1 and wowing critics across the board. His latest release is I Know What Love Isn’t which came out in 2012. The record continued to impress the music press scoring highly in reviews.
