About Jacco Gardner
Listening to Jacco Gardner for the first time, you might think that you’ve uncovered some rare previously uncovered psychedelic gem from the 1960s. But the young Dutch talent was actually born in 1988, so you can no doubt look forward to many more of his neo-psychedelic baroque pop releases to come. Unlike many of the original bands from the sixties you can also see him perform live, particularly as he has an impending tour coming to the UK for a number of performances.
In September of this year there are a number of Jacco Gardner tour dates for fans to look forward to, including gigs at Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar in Brighton on the 15th, The Leadmill in Sheffield on the 19th and The Bodega in Nottingham on the 20th. Expect songs from his critically acclaimed 2013 debut album, including hit single Clear The Air, as well as brand new material from his upcoming album, Hypnophobia, due for release in early May.
At just 27, Gardner’s performances have the air of confidence of someone almost twice his age. Perhaps his real achievement is recreating with great authenticity the sounds of the 1960s psychedelic era, from the dulcet tones of his voice, to the instrumentation of his compositions and the finer production points of his studio recordings. With strong comparisons to the sound of Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd and other bands of the era, Gardner is one for old and new fans of the genre alike.
Announcing his presence on the scene in 2012 with his debut single Clear the Air, Gardner went on to release his first album in 2013, suitably titled Cabinet of Curiosities, to critical acclaim in both his native Netherlands and elsewhere in the world. Shot through with catchy baroque melodies and pseudo-vintage pychedelia, the album comprises a dozen masterfully composed musical vignettes, including The One Eyed King, Watching the Moon, Lullaby and The Ballad of Little Jane.
