It’s been FIVE YEARS and four prime ministers since the UK was plunged into lockdown - do you remember what you were doing? Queer folk star Grace Petrie does.
Together with her longtime accompanist, multi-instrumentalist Ben Moss, she fled Australia mid-tour on one of the last flights out of Sydney. Trapped in a terraced house with only their instruments and a Jack Russell for company, they did what any suddenly unemployed folk musicians would do, and embarked on a 26-day project re-imagining an alphabet of pop bangers - from Backstreet Boys to Girls Aloud via Celine Dion and Dire Straits - as acoustic lesbian ballads.
Arranged, recorded and released one song per day (from the Sugabaes’ About You Now to The Cranberries’ Zombie), their A - Z became a viral sensation on social media and a bright spot for many folks watching along in those first scary, uncharted days. Audience donations for the effort raised over £11,000 for the Big Issue in 2020.
Five years on, Grace and Ben are re-uniting for a charity show to perform the alphabet live, in full, for ONE NIGHT ONLY at The Lexington, London on April 1st 2025.
CAN THEY DO IT? Almost certainly not. SHOULD THEY TRY? It’s hard to make a conclusive argument why.ARE THEY DOING IT ANYWAY? YOU BET.
This will be an intimate show and tickets are EXTREMELY LIMITED so early booking is advised - BUT in keeping with the tradition of the A-Z, this show will be available ONLINE! Live-stream tickets are on sale now so you can watch the chaos unfold as it happens from anywhere in the world (but if you can’t watch it live there will be option to watch back later).
We are lucky to be partnering with our longtime collaborator Robot Needs Home to bring this show to you live in London and online. 100% of the profits will be given to the Gaza charity All Our Relations, to support families displaced by conflict and violence, providing them with the financial, organizational, and emotional aid they need to rebuild their lives with dignity.
We will be collecting on the night if you can afford to pay more, or there are donation options of higher value for the livestream tickets. Gigantic have generously agreed to waive booking fees on anything over the regular face value ticket price so that 100% of any additional donation goes to giving these families a lifeline.
We’ll see you on April Fools Day! Shotgun going to the toilet during Xanadu!
