In a career spanning more than 50 years, legendary saxophonist and composer Jan Garbarek has been one of the defining and most influential musicians of European jazz with his hymnal, lyrical, vocal, ethereal, meditative and undoubtedly Scandinavian sound. From his groundbreaking ECM recordings to a myriad touring history, Jan Garbarek is incessantly composing new music and still striving at age 71 for new and better musical experiences, preferably live in concert.
In his own words, his creative work is a “rolling thing” - a hybrid, a mix. It’s not about achieving some kind of perfection or remaining true to some tradition, but rather expression of his enjoyment for a wide range of influences ranging from Norwegian songs to electronic music, from African sounds to contemporary music.
This year when the epic label ECM is celebrating its 50th anniversary, Garbarek will be meeting the London audience with his fellow musicians; The German pianist and keyboarder Rainer Brüninghaus, the Brazilian bassist Yuri Daniel and the Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu.
