About Dave Dobbyn

Dave Dobbyn is the hit maker singer song writer from New Zealand. A massive star in his home country, he is well loved there and highly regarded the world over.

Success came early for Dobbyn. His first band Th’ Dudes was formed in 1975 with school friends. A rock band drawing on post punk influences, the band lasted five years and produced the cult classic “Bliss” which has become a much loved New Zealand drinking song.

After the end of Th’ Dudes, Dobbyn went on to form DD Smash in 1980. Debut album Cool Bananas was released in 1982 and went in straight to #1 in the national chart, a historic first for New Zealand. The album remained in the charts for an outstanding 24 weeks and went triple gold. The band continued to enjoy stardom for the duration of its existence.

Dobbyn first solo work was writing the two hit singles You Oughta Be In Love and Slice of Heaven for the animated movie Footrot Flats: The Dog’s Tale released in 1986. Slice Of Heaven spent eight weeks at #1 in New Zealand, and four weeks in Australia.

His first solo album, Loyal, was released in 1988. The album featured the hit single Slice Of Heaven and took it’s name from the hit single Loyal.

His hit songs include ‘Beside You’, ‘Be Mine Tonight’ ‘Language’, ‘Outlook for Thursday’, ‘Loyal’, ‘Whaling’, ‘Kingdom Come’, ‘It Dawned On Me’, ‘Guilty’, ‘Devil You Know’, ‘Slice of Heaven’, ‘Magic What She Do’, ‘Oughta Be in Love’ and ‘Welcome Home’.
