The MC and singer-songwriter began his career in 1989. Born in São Paulo, in the neighbourhood of Santo Amaro and raised in Grajaú, Kleber Gomes, aka Criolo, wrote his first rap in 1986 aged 11, and his first song at the age of 25. He established the Rinha dos MCs (MC Cockfights), one of the most authentic hip hop parties dedicated to improvisational battles, and in 2006 released his first studio album "Ainda Há Tempo” (There's Still Time), with a print run of just 500 copies. In 2011 he emerged onto the Brazilian music scene with the critically acclaimed "Nó Na Orelha” (Knot in the Ear). It was recorded with the support of the independent cultural centre Matilha Cultural, and there he met Daniel Ganjaman and Marcelo Cabral, who produced the album.

Under the musical direction of Daniel Ganjaman and Marcelo Cabral, Criolo’s live tour visited more than 10 Brazilian States, in addition to Buenos Aires (Argentina) and New York (USA). He played alongside Mulatu Astatke in London and captivated audiences of all ages in Paris, Milan and Rome. He performed at Roskilde (Denmark), one of the largest music festivals in the world, and then in Los Angeles before returning to New York, this time for the Central Park SummerStage festival. By 2012 Criolo had undertaken two international tours, winning audiences and the endorsement of critics in more than 11 countries around the world.

Back in Brazil, Criolo performed with Caetano Veloso, Seu Jorge and fado singer Ana Moura. In 2014, Criolo was invited by the Academy of Arts in Berlin to appear at the Berlin Poetry Festival. He also participated at Midem, the annual fair for the music business held in Cannes (France). He released the short film “Duas De Cinco / Coccix-ência”, directed by Denis Cisma and performed a short tour entitled “Linha de Frente” with Milton Nascimento and separately with Mulatu Astatke. In this year Criolo released "Convoque Seu Buda" (Invoke Your Buddha) on Oloko Records.

To date, Criolo has won more than 15 awards, given hundreds of shows in Brazil and his albums have been released in Europe and the US. He is noted for his strong verses and expressive social criticism, and has performed alongside Caetano Veloso and Milton Nascimento, toured and recorded an album in tribute to Tim Maia with Ivete Sangalo, and recorded songs on albums by Ney Matogrosso, Gal Costa and Tom Zé. In 2015 Criolo acted in the feature films "Jonas", by the director Lô Politi, and “Tudo Que Aprendemos Juntos", by Sérgio Machado. In Mexico City he participated in the Ibero-Americano Cine Fênix awards, singing "O Que Será, Que Será" with Mexican singer Julieta Venegas, and in January and July he performed in Europe, passing through France, England, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Netherlands and Belgium, not to forget Argentina and at the Womad Festival, in Australia.

In 2016, Criolo relaunched, with new arrangements, his first album "Ainda Há Tempo". Now in 2017, he is ready to launch one of the biggest projects of his life: an authorial samba record with 10 tracks.
