Performing Artists

We present a trio of spoken word luminaries to mark Black History Month.

Poet Carl Hancock Rux has been described as “a male heir apparent to the throne of Nina Simone". In truth his style is closer to Gil-Scott Heron, or John Lee Hooker had J.L. gone to college in a contemporary America and majored in journalism.

A vocalized ’60 Minutes’ accompanied by rhythm–laden jazz, blues, funk, and gospel. Having collaborated with UK artists David Holmes, Geoff Burrows (of Portishead) and most recently Rob Marshall, Rux’s return to London’s Jazz Café will see him joined by a small band of musicians to perform his song and poems from his acclaimed recordings.

Joining him is British poet Lemn Sissay
