World famous reggae artist Beres Hammond is known for his unique soulful voice which is perfect for romantic lovers rock. The seminal singer has released nineteen studio albums and worked with such other luminaries as Flourgon, Wyclef Jean and Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith.

Hugh Beresford Hammond began by performing in local talent competitions having grown up listening to the soul and jazz records in his father’s collection. He simultaneously worked as a solo artist, starting with a recording of Ellis’ Wanderer before releasing his debut solo album Soul Reggae whilst also joining the band Zap Pow as their lead singer in 1975.

In 1985 Hammond started his own label Harmony Records. The first release was his album Make A Song which contained the two Jamaican hit singles Groovy Little Thing and What One Dance Can Do which derived influence from the emerging dancehall style. The album brought him international attention increased by his eponymously titled album featuring the song Settling Down. However, fame did not come easy and after he was bound and tied in his own home whilst being robbed he felt forced to temporarily move from Jamaica to New York.

After some time away, he returned to record the album Putting Up Resistance. In 1990 he signed to Penthouse Records and soon released his massive dancehall hit single Tempted To Touch. The song raised his profile outside his homeland and saw his name spread throughout the States and Europe resulting in the some becoming the template to future hits such as Is This A Sign and Respect To You Baby, featured on the Love Affair album.
