About Art Garfunkel
Make sure you see the magnificent Art Garfunkel. Singer, poet and actor, his work as half of Simon & Garfunkel and his solo efforts have defined the sound of the 20th century and beyond. The music he has written has seen him win a Grammy for the Lifetime Achievement Award and has been entered into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
Arthur Ira Garfunkel was born in 1941 and took an interest in music during school where he met his collaborative partner Paul Simon. The pair began to perform together as teenagers and worked on a close two-part harmony style, inspired by The Everly Brothers. In 1957 they recorded the song Hey, Schoolgirl under the name Tom & Jerry, under the advice of their label Big Records, and rose to #49 in the pop charts.
It was also at this time Garfunkel released music as a solo artist, under the pseudonyms Tom Graph and Artie Garr.
The pair would reunite in the sixties, however this time they would use their actual names establishing the instantly recognisable title of Simon & Garfunkel. The decade would see the two incredible talents release the albums Sounds of Silence; Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme; Bookends, and Bridge over Troubled Water which sound tracked the dynamic decade.
The seventies saw the two pursue solo careers. 1973 saw the living legend release his first solo album; Angel Clare. The decade saw another three albums with Garfunkel releasing a total of ten solo studio albums to date.
