About Wolf Gang

Wolf Gang was initially formed as a solo project by London musician Max McElligott, but has since evolved into a full-on collaborative effort between its four members, which include Gavin Slater, James Wood, and Lasse Petersen. Wolf Gang’s debut, Suego Faults, produced by Dave Fridmann (MGMT, The Flaming Lips), came out 2011, a skilful and exciting reflection of McElligott’s musical sensibility. As the band toured extensively on the songs, playing with artists like Coldplay, The Killers, Florence + The Machine and The Naked and Famous, Wolf Gang transformed the songs into vibrant live collaborations, leading McElligott to officially make the band a four-piece. Inspired to work together, the musicians decamped to Berlin for a period in 2012 where McElligott’s historian father keeps a small flat. The idea was to write songs that fully encapsulated their live experience and contained the same sort of vibrant energy the band generates on-stage.

While writing their sophomore album, Wolf Gang found a new record label with Cherrytree Records, home to breakthrough British acts like Ellie Goulding, Disclosure and La Roux. The band, who have earned a sizeable fan base in the States and played festivals like SXSW and Coachella, will tour America again this spring with fellow British rock band Bastille.

With their new record, Wolf Gang finds a cathartic release for major life questions, both for themselves and for anyone who hears the music. The songs are threaded together by real contentions we all face, but in the end the uplift of the music offers a gleam of hope that all will be okay. It’s a sentiment best felt live. “Music is a very powerful thing and it affects people in very powerful ways, even when you don’t realize it,” McElligott says. “It’s amazing hearing what people have to say after our shows about how the music affected them in a manner of ways. I think these new songs will translate well on-stage and I can’t wait to see how people react to them.”

Wolf Gang will play Dingwalls in London on Wednesday 15 October.
