Wakestock Gwyl y Môr have more additions to the line up to reveal this week. We are stoked to add CLEAN BANDIT to the mix for 2014 along with DUKE DUMONT, GORGON CITY, B. TRAITS, SHY FX and STAMINA MC, CATFISH AND THE BOTTLEMEN, LE YOUTH, FRED V & GRAFFIX WITH FELON MC, STAR SLINGER and GOLDIEROCKS. They join TOM O’DELL, FRANK TURNER AND THE SLEEPING SOULS and JOHN NEWMAN in making the trip to the Llyn Peninsula in July.
British electronic group CLEAN BANDIT topped the UK singles charts with their third single “Rather Be” in January where they remained for four weeks. Signed to Black Butter Records their sound is a culture clash of bass, beats and soaring strings reminiscent of classic Massive Attack and their live shows go off! They supported Rudimental, Redlight and Big Boi last year and 2014 looks set to be one hell of a year for this band. They will go down a storm.
DJ and producer DUKE DUMONT is best known for smash hit "Need U (100%)" The song topped the UK Singles Chart and earned this talented guy a Grammy nomination. The supremely catchy followup “I Got You” is currently being championed by Annie Mac and it's looking like the sound to kickstart summer. Dumont has teamed up with fellow producer Jax Jones and his new the track blends a bouncy Caribbean steel drum rhythm with a sample of Whitney Houston's evergreen "My Love Is Your Love". You won’t be able to get this song out of your head by the time Wakestock hits the Llyn.
GORGON CITY hit the charts in May of last year with their single “Intentions” featuring Clean Bandit. Duo Matt & Kye have capitalized on their successes of 2013 with their smash new single ‘Ready For Your Love.” Featuring the vocal talents of rising star MNEK, RFYL has been played practically non-stop since its announcement. Supported by Radio 1, 1 Xtra and added to the Kiss FM playlist 8 weeks upfront of release, the single is set to help stamp Gorgon City’s mark well and truly all over 2014.
Embracing genres from across the bass music spectrum, including garage, drum 'n' bass, reggae, jungle, dubstep and carnival house, B. TRAITS has earned herself a well-deserved reputation as one of the moment's most eclectic DJs and producers. Currently working on her debut album, B holds down a permanent show on Radio 1, following a stint as a monthly In New DJs We Trust presenter. Currently smashing up a tour of Universities across the country we are very much looking forward to bringing her to North Wales this year.
SHY FX is, without question, one of the original pioneers of the Jungle and Drum & Bass scenes, a true innovator for dance music across the globe. Shy has released over 350 tracks including the chart smash ‘Shake Your Body’ (which reached No. 7 in the UK Charts), as well as “Don’t Wanna Know” and “Murderation”, to name but a few. He will be joined by STAMINA MC. He is best known for providing vocals for chart-topping singles “Barcelona” by D. Kay and Epsilon and “LK” by DJ Marky and XRS Land.
Welsh rockers CATFISH AND THE BOTTLEMAN hail from Llandudno. These guys play loud, explosive, sexy rock and roll songs - full of guitars and energy. The guys released their debut single “Homesick” last year and took to the Wakestock stage. We welcome their return in 2014 as it looks set to be the year they make their mark after recently featuring on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 Future Festival.
Super cool LE YOUTH was born stateside but the UK took note of him when his track "Cool" featuring a sample from Cassie Ventura's Me & U rapidly received over 200,000 plays on Soundcloud. The single was picked up by Ultra Records and the Cool EP was released in July last year. It was named record of the week by Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw. 'Dance With Me' was his second official single and is set for big things this year.
The boys we know as FRED V & GRAFFIX have been in the spotlight with the resounding success of their Sick Music 3 contribution “Major Happy” which has garnered high profile support from Annie Mac and more. With plenty of charisma, talent and the backing of many of the industry’s key players, one thing’s for sure – as we look ahead, the future is most definitely bright for these guys. They are performing this year with FELON MC.
Manchester based DJ and producer STAR SLINGER first came to our notice after self-releasing a beat tape in the summer of 2010 entitled "Volume 1". From then on, Williams picked up noteworthy press interest from Pitchfork Media, SPIN Magazine, Dazed & Confused Magazine and was interviewed by Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1. He will be a popular addition this year.
Sam Hall aka DJ GOLDIEROCKS has become something of a Wakestock staple. A broadcaster extraordinaire with a celebrity following that includes Madonna, Giorgio Armani, Richard Branson and Jade Jagger. She will return to one of her favourite festivals to play what always prove to be hugely popular party sets over the course of the weekend.
This year look out for a line up which places the music industry spotlight firmly on the emerging talent that Wales has to offer the world. We’ll be showcasing music, comedy and more from Wales and beyond. If you think you or someone you know needs to be seen on this stage then get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org This line up is a work in progress and an exciting development for 2014 as it will offer more local talent slots than ever before.
