Feel-good evening
The theatre was a great venue and a reasonably good turn out for a legend of mountain bike. Understandably the older photos and film clips were quite poor quality however I found this authentic and a personal account of his story.
As the talk moved toward more current events the camerawork became more professional and as a result more engaging.
I did feel a sense of nostalgia and Hans was a reasonable communicator.
There was one particular clip of Hans Rey with his ‘friend’ a performing chimp which felt a little inappropriate. I think it reflected an outdated approach to animal welfare.
I appreciate that his personality is ‘no holds barred’ and ’larger than life’, so, on the whole I came away having enjoyed the evening.
Hans was very happy to sign books and posters etc. but it seemed obvious that he had come to the end of a tiring tour of his shows.
I would definitely come to another talk.
