Spiers & Boden are a renowned English folk duo formed in 1999, consisting of John Spiers on melodeon and concertina, and Jon Boden on fiddle, guitar, vocals, and stomp box. They are celebrated for their mastery of traditional English folk music, blending intricate melodies with dynamic rhythms. Their debut album, Through & Through (2001), established them as prominent figures in the folk scene. Subsequent releases, such as Bellow (2003), Tunes (2005), and Songs (2005), showcased their evolving sound and garnered critical acclaim. In 2008, they released Vagabond, followed by The Works in 2011, a compilation of re-recorded tracks from their previous albums. After a hiatus, they returned in 2021 with Fallow Ground, demonstrating their enduring passion for folk music.
Beyond their duo work, Spiers & Boden were founding members of the acclaimed folk big band Bellowhead, which further elevated their status in the folk music community. Their contributions to the genre have earned them multiple BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, including the Horizon Award for Best Newcomer in 2003 and the Best Duo Award in 2004 and 2006.
