Midlake are an American folk-rock band from Denton, Texas, formed in 1999. What began as a collective of jazz students has grown into a group celebrated for their warm, atmospheric sound that blends folk, soft rock and touches of psychedelia. Early records like Bamnan and Slivercork (2004) and The Trials of Van Occupanther (2006) won them both critical acclaim and a devoted following, with favourites such as “Roscoe” becoming staples among indie rock fans. Their third studio album The Courage of Others (2010) deepened their folk roots, and Antiphon (2013) marked a transition after lead vocalist Tim Smith’s departure, with guitarist Eric Pulido stepping up and the band bringing in new members to refresh its sound.
After almost a decade away from releasing a full studio album, Midlake returned triumphant with For the Sake of Bethel Woods (2022), a record praised for its immersive textures and emotional resonance. In 2023 they announced Live At Roundhouse — their first live album — documenting a performance in London that spans material from across their career, from The Trials of Van Occupanther through to their newer work. They also announced their latest album A Bridge To Far, set for release 7 November 2025, showing that Midlake continue evolving while holding true to the emotional heart of their music.
