About Arctic Monkeys
Arctic Monkeys concerts have be experienced to be believed. The band’s frenetic live style has been drawing crowds since 2003 when they would give away demo CDs at their gigs. These early tracks subsequently found their way onto the internet, making five lads from Sheffield massively popular before they’d even released any music. When they did finally put out their now-iconic debut album ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ in 2006, it was met with huge acclaim, selling over 360,000 copies in the first week of its release.
With their guitar-driven rock ‘n’ roll sound, and lead singer Alex Turner’s razor-sharp, gritty lyricism and distinctive Sheffield vocals, the band captured the imaginations of thousands of faithful followers and quickly established themselves as one of the best live acts around, selling out venue after venue.
Their second album, ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’, was also well received with two further albums, ‘Humbug’ (2009) and ‘Suck It and See’ (2011), soon following. Not a band to rest on their laurels, Arctic Monkeys released their fifth album, ‘AM’, in 2013 with many describing it as their best work yet.
As a live act, they continue to refine their delivery. They have headlined some of the biggest festivals in the country, such as Reading & Leeds and Glastonbury 2013, where they simultaneously mesmerised and energised tens of thousands of fans.
A critic’s sweetheart, the band has picked up accolades left, right and centre, including BRIT Awards, the Ivor Novello Award and the Mercury Prize. They have also been nominated for several Grammy Awards.
It’s been a rise to fame like few others and it doesn’t look like stopping any time soon. In fact, if recent performances are anything to go by, this indie rock group are just getting started.
